Collagen
The word Collagen is derived from the Greek word for glue, “kolla.” Interestingly, the French word for glue is “la colle.” Collagen really can be thought of as human glue. It is what holds us together! As we age, our ability to make this important compound begins to decline.
Collagen naturally begins to decline after age twenty-five and declines to a greater extent with the decline of estrogen in women during menopause. Collagen fragmentation occurs as we age and is one of the contributing factors to the formation of wrinkles. The good news is that studies have shown that supplementation with hydrolyzed collagen can slow the affects of declining collagen production.
Hydrolyzed collagen supplementation has been proven to help with the reparation of joints, increasing bone density, boosting lean muscle mass, improving cardiovascular health, reducing wrinkles and increasing skin suppleness. Further it is shown to promote elastin production. The main components of skin are collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
